For those of us who love shopping, one important advantage that the internet was supposed to bring us was the ability to save money. Has it worked for you? I make sure that I never pay the full price for any products or services.

Lots of my friends tell me that they can't seem to get lower prices on products online. They often spot deals that look good but turn out to be little better than comparable offers in high street stores. The problem is often caused by hidden extras.

For example, prices often appear to be low on websites but, when you get to the checkout, you realise that the delivery costs are high, making the overall price no better than you could get from visiting a traditional, bricks and mortar store.

Given this situation, is there any real advantage to doing your shopping online? Sure, you may save yourself a bit of hassle by avoiding going into town, but how much money is there to be saved?

Such considerations caused me to think a lot more about how I could save money. One important little trick that I make use of has ensured that I've saved a considerable amount on purchases over the past couple of years.

Now it's time to let you in on the secret - I make use of what are called discount codes.

What's a discount code? A discount code is a free offer provided by certain retailers. They will basically reduce the cost of a product if you have a discount code, which you need to enter at the online checkout.

The best news of all is that many online retailers offer these discounts and that they are relatively simple to track down. Listings sites, such as Offer UK, produce details of many of the discount codes that are currently on offer to you.

This means that all that you need to do is to look up the retailer that you are about to purchase from and then find the appropriate code.

Enter the code at the checkout and receive a discount - a simple method that I use to save money online!
